We were treated to tiny glasses of apple tea as the fun began. It seems Kusadasi - Island of the Birds in Turkish - was not known for carpets until recently, but has now become the most important center for Turkish rugs outside of Istanbul. The rug merchants of Istanbul have recognized that this rapidly developing resort on the Aegean, near the carpet-weaving centers of western Anatolia, is a strategic center of distribution for their wares.
Many rugs were shown to us they were all breathtaking. It was neat to see how they threw them just to the edges of our feet. Then in a brief 30 minutes to shop before we were taken to our hotel to begin our journey home. By this time, after nine days of constant walking, save the day I was under the weather, I just wanted to be HOME.
I leaned into Judie and said wouldn’t it be kewl if we could fly home on a magic carpet. Yup we all were very tired and ready to go home. Outside we were encouraged to return to the carpet place to see the perfect RUG for us to purchase. I leaned into the gate beside the store and looked a schoolyard of children playing.
So ends the account of the trip. NOW to sit down and watch WVU play in the NIT Finals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mountaineers!
