The Cat is out of the Bag

After locating all four Birthday cards, well the last one I had to give hints. It was almost 3 pm and my Sweetie REALLY wanted to see what was under the tarp. So I helped him to locate the final card. Tee hee it was on the Blog! ~~~ Not quite a Nimbus 2000 ~~ BETTER than that ~~~ All that could be unloaded were the owner’s manual the bib and tires. We will need to wait for our other son to assist in getting the Swisher out and onto terra firma.

…7 horsepower/28-ton of splitting force Briggs & Stratton Cast Iron Sleeve Intek engine. Varooooooooooooooooom and lots of torque [*the symbol for torque is τ, the Greek letter tau], … Whooooo Hooooooooooooo lets hear it for Archimedes. ~~~ And of course the homemade Birthday Cake: * I saved several Goose eggs for it…yummm O!

CHOCOLATE BUTTERMILK CAKE WITH CARAMEL ICING

1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1/3 c. cocoa
1/3 c. hot water
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour CARAMEL ICING
2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 stick butter
8 tbsp. canned evaporated milk
1 MILKY WAY® bar
Pinch of salt
Mix together first 3 ingredients.
Mix together next 2 ingredients and add to first mixture.
Mix buttermilk and soda and add to mixture.
Add flour and mix well.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean, do not overbake.
Cool completely and frost with caramel icing.
~~
Caramel Icing:
Bring to boil sugar, milk, flour, salt.
Add butter and candy bar.
Beat until thick.
Frost cake immediately.
Use oblong or layer pans.
~~~
To make pretend buttermilk,
add 1-3/4 tablespoons of cream of tartar to a cup of milk,
or add a tablespoon of lemon juice
or white vinegar to a cup of milk and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
In many baking recipes, you can also just use plain yogurt or sour cream instead of buttermilk.
Wow! Fantastic present. I'll bet he was completely surprised. Men do love things with torque, don't they. He won't forget this birthday - by the way, how old is you hubby?? The cake sounds marvelous - I will try it sometime.
