A butterfly is an insect of the order Lepidoptera. Like all Lepidoptera, butterflies are notable for their unusual life cycle with a larval caterpillar stage, an inactive pupal stage, and a spectacular metamorphosis into a familiar and colourful winged adult form. Most species are day-flying so they regularly attract attention. The diverse patterns formed by their brightly coloured wings and their erratic yet graceful flight have made butterfly watching a popular hobby.

Flying leaves

The fall array of butterflies makes the edge of the woods look alive. Sometimes in the flurry of the leaves falling they all look like butterflies. I can see the creek again. I am a happy but very sore camper. This project is HALF finished but will have to wait until the weekend as my shoulders are telling me “ENUFF”!!!!!! Best part is that there were no snakes! [This time] So off for a tryst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Early Friday!

Mud Puddling

Why are butterflies attracted to mud. In addition, male butterflies are particularly attracted to mud puddles (they are looking for salts that precipitate out of minerals in the soil). A sunken wet saucer with horticultural sand works well to attract salt-seeking males. And finally, many species of butterflies like to perch on dark flat surfaces, where they can bask and watch for potential mates. A flat rock in a sunny spot will provide for this need. Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on

It is so good to have my camera back. When I took these pictures, the song just POPPED into my mind… Of course I was also thinking about SLURPIES… Hang on sloopy, sloopy hang on(yeah) (yeah) (yeah) (yeah) (yeah) (yeah) When a small rock group from Ohio named the McCoys recorded Hang On Sloopy in 1965, who would have guessed that decades later the song would become synonymous with Ohio State Football?
