As I walk out into the yard the fog is so heavy that every cobweb is perfectly outlined. Some webs sits upon the dried flowers as if to say

By 11 am the sun will break through and the need to accomplish some much needed tasks is at hand. The sun will dry the heavy accumulation of dew.

Well I am talking about Old Roots

Fall is a neat time of year, but then I like all of the seasons and what they offer. Sounds trite I suppose… It seems no matter how well you plan there is always something else that needs attention. But then that just makes LIFE more interesting.

The soil in this particular area is clay based and not conducive to digging easily. Case in point the Green Fence we planted last week. We muster on for sure; bit by bit the improvements are beginning to show.

Close to the Big Barn is a row of trees that were once part of a fence line. In recent years it was a horse pasture. When the time came that the horse was no longer here and the final realization that we were never probably getting sheep…bit by bit the old fence came down. In this particular area I found some HUGE stones, which my Sweetie and youngest son moved to a different area. [Ah yes a possible project that is on the back burner, for now]

I took the weed eater and whacked the crap out of that area. I knew there was poison ivy there because many of the vines are in some of the trees. What I wanted to do was get the LITTLE stuff on the ground around the existing trees semi contained. My Sweetie had sprayed and that indeed was a help.

Now we are trying to get the little Stumps of icky scrub down to the bare earth so one can walk around it without falling flat on ones face. Right into the poison ivy YIKES!

As I stretch from the arduous task of weed eating I watch the fall leaves gently float down to the meadow. The birds begin their pre flight instructions from their parents…the Canada geese sail overhead and the butterflies are abundant. Squirrels are delighted as many walnuts PLINK off the barn roof. The Hickory nuts are not near the barn so THAT plink is only noticed when one hits near where you walk the dogs. Oh how funny that was when Jazzy got Beaned…

Yup Fall is here I even have started wearing socks… ;)

Toothpaste

Ha ha I had a Epiphany about Toothpaste…Go Figure!

This morning when I awoke, I noticed my container of Toothpaste. It is almost at its end of usefulness. I calculate approximately four (4) more applications left.

~~ Ummmmmmm, I wonder how long this particular container has adorned my sink area? Will I miss the old one? Why am I even thinking about it? There on the edge of the sink sits a new container just waiting to be the next in line.

How Modems Work! Modem (from modulator-demodulator) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information. The goal is to produce a signal that can be transmitted easily and decoded to reproduce the original digital data. Modems can be used over any means of transmitting analog signals, from driven diodes to radio.

The most familiar example is a voiceband modem that turns the digital 1s and 0s of a personal computer into sounds that can be transmitted over the telephone lines of Plain Old Telephone Systems (POTS), and once received on the other side, converts those 1s and 0s back into a form used by a USB, Ethernet, serial, or network connection. Modems are generally classified by the amount of data they can send in a given time, normally measured in bits per second, or "bps". They can also be classified by Baud, the number of times the modem changes its signal state per second.

Routers are physical devices that join multiple wired or wireless networks together. Technically, a wired or wireless router is a Layer 3 gateway, meaning that the wired/wireless router connects networks (as gateways do), and that the router operates at the network layer of the OSI model.

~~~ This weekend's full Moon has a special name--the Harvest Moon. It's the full Moon closest to the northern autumnal equinox. In years past, farmers depended on the light of the Harvest Moon to gather ripening crops late into the night. Post-Edison, we appreciate it mainly for its beauty. Be alert in the nights ahead for Harvest Moon halos, coronas and 'dogs.

The harvest moon is the first full moon after the first frost.

The Harvest moon is a legend in Norse mythology, it is said to be the most powerful of the Moons granting Loki's blessing for a strong harvest and plenty. The Harvest moon is often mistaken for the modern day Hunter's moon.

There is something special about all seasons, at least for me. Fall brings the harvest of many foods from the garden.

I especially love to grill any time of year, but this particular occasion was this past week. A woman’s party and we all had a BLAST!

"Shine On, Harvest Moon" is the name of a popular early-1900s song credited to Jack Norworth and his wife Nora Bayes. It was one of a series of moon related Tin Pan Alley songs of the era. The song was debuted by the composers in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1908 to great acclaim. It became a pop standard, still very familiar some 40 years later, and continues to be performed and recorded occasionally into the 21st century.

Fall is almost upon us here. The dogs are faring quite well as are we. This summer has been rather hectic, but then it has been a good spring and summer. Tomorrow it is time to finish processing the corn from the garden. Soon as well time to get the birdfeeders ready.

The name Aster comes from the Ancient Greek word astron, meaning "star", arriving through the Latin word astrum with the same meaning, referring to the shape of the flower head. Many species and a variety of hybrids and varieties are popular as garden plants because of their attractive and colorful flowers.

"Wild Asters"

In the spring I asked the daisies

Asters are great for late summer and fall bloom. Its bright 1 1/2 inch flowers bloom prolifically from August through October atop a two to four foot plant.

The Aster produces large clusters of delicate daisy-like flowers in white, purple, lavender, pink or red. They are hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, depending on the variety.Asters should be planted in moist well-drained soil in full sun, but they will tolerate light shading. The plants form broad bushy clumps, so plant them at least 18 inches apart. Mature clumps will need to be divided every 3 - 4 years in the early spring, or late fall after the flowering has finished. Pinch back the tops by 6-8 inches at least once during the summer, to create a bushier plant and to prolong the fall bloom. This pinching MUST be done prior to mid July, or it will have an opposite effect, and blooming will be reduced. Asters may be propagated by dividing or grown from seed sown indoors at about 70 degrees F. or may be sown directly into the garden after all frost danger has passed. Germination takes anywhere from 15 to 30 days, depending on the temperature.

Annual varieties of Asters require the same basic care, but should not be planted in the same spot the following year, to prevent plant diseases such as Aster wilt. Sow seeds directly into the garden in early spring, when all frost danger has passed. Barely cover the seeds with 1/8 inch of fine soil. Thin the young plants to 12 to 15 inches apart when they are three inches tall. Successive plantings will ensure a longer blooming season. Promptly remove any spent flowers to help ensure blooming throughout the summer.

Soon after Sarah’s Pond was complete, the ducks wrecked havoc. Temporary measure was a plastic fence. This summer we added not just a Fence, as we call it the DUCK Fence, but a lower deck adjacent to the existing deck Plus a concrete pad that is Beautiful.

Enjoy a work in progress. Next year I shall add some Lily of the Valley as well as more ferns. It should settle out and be just totally wonderful. Aside from keeping the gardening and pond maintained
