This is for you Sweetie

BUT you know I will be back… "Leaving on a Jet Plane" is a song written by John Denver in 1967 during a layover at an airport in Washington and recorded by the Mitchell Trio that year. The original title of the song was "Oh Babe I Hate To Go" but Denver's then producer, Milt Okun, convinced him to change the title. Denver wrote the song after his flight was delayed. Other artists recorded the song in 1967, including Spanky & Our Gang and Peter, Paul and Mary on Album 1700. It did not become a hit until Peter, Paul and Mary released it as a single in 1969. It turned out to be their biggest (and final) hit, becoming their only #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song also spent three weeks atop the easy listening chart.

Fish Challenge

This year like every year in the Fall, my Sweetie goes Fishing with the GUYS.
Has been like this for well over thirty years.
Last year I sent SPECIAL Soap for all that participated.
The results I was told were gigantic.
The perfect soap for fisherman and outdoor enthusiasts. It keeps the bugs off, masks the human scent, attracts fish, and contains fine pumice for exfoliating. With anise essential oil, this bar makes a great gift for the sportsman as well as a useful household soap, especially when preparing raw fish or meat. The smell of licorice (anise) masks human odor and that fish are attracted to its smell. As an added benefit anise oil has strong antibacterial qualities.
This year I needed something different.
This was what ensued

Carving Pumpkins

It is REALLY too soon to carve, BUT, it is never too soon to PLAN! So close to the ELECTION…why not have some FUN
Voting is exciting
Voting is your right and responsibility.

Why not COMBINE both Halloween and the Upcoming Election!

NOTE the Frog here?????

I like FROGS

The United States presidential election of 2008, scheduled for Tuesday November 4, 2008, will be the 56th consecutive quadrennial United States presidential election and will select the President of the United States and Vice President of the United States.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Republican Party has chosen John McCain, the senior United States Senator from Arizona as its nominee; Barack Obama, the junior United States Senator from Illinois, has been chosen as the nominee for the Democratic Party. The 2008 election is particularly notable because it is the first time in U.S. history that two sitting senators will run against each other for president, and because it is the first time an African American is a presidential nominee for a major party, as well as the first time both major candidates were born outside the continental United States - Hawaii for Obama and the Panama Canal Zone for McCain. With African American candidate Barack Obama, who is of mixed African and Caucasian parentage, as the Democratic Party nominee for President and John McCain's selection of female Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the Republican Party nominee for Vice-President, the eventual winning ticket is very likely to have a historic context, as either the first African American will be elected President along with the first Roman Catholic as Vice President or the first woman will be elected Vice President.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Libertarian Party has nominated former Congressman Bob Barr, the Constitution Party has nominated pastor and radio talk show host Chuck Baldwin, and the Green Party has nominated former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. Ralph Nader declined to seek the Green Party nomination and is running as an independent candidate.

Toothpaste

Ha ha I had a Epiphany about Toothpaste…Go Figure!
This morning when I awoke, I noticed my container of Toothpaste. It is almost at its end of usefulness. I calculate approximately four (4) more applications left.
~~ Ummmmmmm, I wonder how long this particular container has adorned my sink area? Will I miss the old one? Why am I even thinking about it? There on the edge of the sink sits a new container just waiting to be the next in line.
~~
So early to think about complex issues…
~~
I could provide a picture of the soon to be empty container as well as the one in waiting, but then I think I will just do a flower or something else…
~~ Silliness for sure!

~~

Talk about silliness, have you ever REALLY wondered how much toothpaste is there in a tube?

PETEY THE SNAKE
~~~~~~~~~~~~
PETEY WAS A SNAKE, ONLY SO BIG. PETEY LIVED IN A PIT WITH HIS MOTHER.
~ ONE DAY PETEY WAS HISSING ALL AROUND WHEN HIS MOTHER SAID "PETEY, DON'T HISS IN THE PIT, GO OUTSIDE THE PIT TO HISS". SO PETEY WENT OUTSIDE OF THE PIT TO HISS.
~ PETEY WAS HISSING ALL AROUND WHEN HE FINALLY LEANED OVER AND HISSED IN THE PIT. PETEY'S MOTHER HEARD PETEY HISSING IN THE PIT AND SAID, " PETEY, IF YOU MUST HISS IN A PIT, GO OVER TO MRS. POTT'S PIT AND HISS IN HER PIT" .
~ PETEY WENT OVER TO MRS. POTT'S PIT TO HISS IN HER PIT, BUT MRS. POTT WAS NOT AT HOME SO HE HISSED IN HER PIT ANYWAY.
~ WHILE PETEY WAS HISSING IN MRS. POTT'S PIT MRS.POTT CAME HOME AND FOUND PETEY HISSING IN HER PIT. SHE SAID , " PETEY IF YOU MUST HISS GO TO YOUR OWN PIT TO HISS IN"
~ THIS MADE PETEY VERY SAD, AND HE CRIED ALL THE WAY HOME. WHEN PETEY GOT HOME, HIS MOTHER SAW HIM CRYING AND SAID, "PETEY, WHAT'S THE MATTER?"
~ PETEY SAID, "I WENT OVER TO MRS. POTT'S TO HISS IN HER PIT BUT MRS. POTT WAS NOT HOME, SO I HISSED IN HER POT ANYWAY".
~ MRS. POTT CAME HOME AND FOUND ME HISSING IN HER PIT AND SAID, "PETEY, IF YOU MUST HISS IN A PIT, GO TO YOUR PIT AND HISS, DON'T HISS IN MY PIT".
~ THIS MADE PETEY'S MOTHER VERY ANGRY AND SHE SAID, "WHY THAT MEAN OLD LADY!". I KNEW MRS. POTT WHEN SHE DIDN'T HAVE A PIT TO HISS IN".
Mirthful Monday
Ode to Plurals ~~ Showcasing my Peonies
We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his, and him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis, and shim!
Let's face it - English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England .
We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes,
we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square,
and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea , nor is it a pig.
~~
And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing,
grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend.
If you have a bunch of odds and ends
and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?
~~
If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
Sometimes I think all the folks who grew up speaking English
should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.
~~
In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?
We ship by truck but send cargo by ship.
We have noses that run and feet that smell.
We park in a driveway and drive in a parkway.
And how can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same,
while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?
~~
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language
in which your house can burn up as it burns down,
in which you fill in a form by filling it out,
and in which an alarm goes off by going on.
~~
And in closing,if Father is Pop, how come Mother is not Mop?
Purple asparagus originated from a region around Albenga, Italy. This "cultivar" is known as Violetto d/Albenga. Although the spears are of deep purple color, the ferns are actually green. The farmers in Albenga region propagate the plants using seeds from open pollination. Seeds are usually collected from vigorous female plants producing large spears. ~~
Purple hybrids produce larger spears but fewer in number per plant than the green hybrids Green, White and Purple!
To keep the purple in asparagus, add acid (lemon juice or vinegar) to its cooking water. The acid anchors the red pigment, anthocyanin. If you don't do this, the color fades to green--a bit extravagant, because you pay a premium for the purple. Dishes that maximize purple asparagus's color maximize its value, as in the purple, white, and green asparagus platter and the citrus salad. Sweet Shrub Scientific Name
Calycanthus floridus
Common NameSweet shrub; Sweet Betsy, Carolina allspice
SWEET SHRUB (Strawberry Bush, Sweet Shade)Sweet Shrub is native to the Appalachian stream banks of the Smokies, where it is also known as Carolina Allspice, Strawberry Bush, Sweet Shade, and Bubby Blossom. Women used to place the flowers in their bodices as a perfume, hence the name "Bubby Blossom". Sweet shrub was once commonly found as an ornamental around colonial homes, especially south of the Mason-Dixon line. Several large bushes can fill a small yard with the combined fragrance of strawberry, cantaloupe, spiced apple, and burgundy wine. Sweet shrub has a distinctive maroon-red flower about 2" across. It is pollinated by small beetles that were the first pollinators of flowering plants and were instrumental in the evolution of flowering plants, long before bees and flies appeared on the scene. When the flower first opens it has the fragrance of spiced apples as it opens over a period of 7 to 10 days. Flowers first appear in mid-March with a flush of flowers in April, and a trailing out through May. Even the leaves are fragrant when rubbed, and in the fall they turn a sunny yellow. In colonial times the cinnamon-flavored bark was used as a seasoning. Sweet shrubs are ideal for planting close to the house near a window where the fragrance may drift indoors. Plant additional plants by a favor-ite path or sitting area. Will flower splendidly in full sun, but is best adapted to light shade. Flowers in 2 to 3 years from seed. Medicinal: Useful for damp spleen. An excellent herb for moving stagnant chi. The leaves, twigs, and buds have diaphoretic properties. An emmenagogue, and possibly has some anti-viral activity.
Roll me Over in the Clover
According to an off-handed note in Hugill, this song is a soldiers' song, popular
during World War II.
The rhyming, melody and rhythm probably have stayed the same over the years,
but it seems like it's too tempting to change a verse or two in this song for all the
words to have stayed true.
We've tried it once or
And found it rather nice
Chorus:
Roll me over lay me down and do it again
Roll me over in the clover, roll me over lay me down and do it again
Oh this is number one
And the fun has just begun
[Gill Over the Ground- Glechoma hedercea ]
Oh this is number two,
Down in front he's comin through
Oh this is number three And his hand is on me knee Oh this is number four And he's been there twice before Oh this is number five I'm surprised I'm still alive
[BLOODROOT--Sanguinaria Canadensis]
**
Oh this is number six, And he's got me doin tricks [Carolina Spring Beauty
Claytonia caroliniana]
**
Well this is number seven, And he took me straight to heaven Oh this is number eight, He bent me o'er the garden gate
Chionodoxa luciliae (also known as Glory of the snow) is a small (3-6") flower which grows from a hardy bulb and produces one of the earliest flowers of spring. Originally from Turkey, it is hardy in hardiness zones 3-8, sun or part shade. Chiodoxa seeds itself and will spread in beds that will later have other interest, like rose beds and so on.
**
Oh this is number nine, And the baby's doin fine Oh this is number ten, And when he's through we'll do it again Oh this is number eleven and it's just like number seven
Life is not a highway strewn with flowers,
Still it holds a goodly share of bliss,
When the sun gives way to April showers,
Here's a thought that we should never miss:
Though April showers May come your way, T
hey bring the flowers That bloom in May;
And if it's raining, Have no regrets;
Because, it isn't raining rain, you know,
It's raining violets.
And when you see clouds Upon the hill, You soon will see crowds Of daffodils;
So keep on looking for the bluebird,
And listening for his song,
Whenever April showers come along.
They bring the flowers That bloom in May;
And if it's raining, Have no regrets;
